Dreams Come True

I am very blessed to have my foot in the door with Warren Tricomi Salon.  I recently got hired at their West Hollywood location.  As for those who don't know, Warren-Tricomi, is owned by Joel Warren and Edward Tricomi.  Joel Warren specializes in color and Edward specializes in cut and style, also known as "Edward Scissor Hands".  Four years ago I was on a television show where Joel and Edward did my hair.  Back then I had just moved from Arizona to California to pursue an acting career in Hollywood.  Little did I know that I would be more interested in what was going on behind the camera than what was going on in the front.  I was intrigued by hair designers and make up artist more than famous actors or actresses.  I found my passion!!!  By receiving  my new hair cut and style by Joel and Edward it  inspired me to get my cosmetology license.  Joel and Edward did not know that they motivated me to go to school.  A year later I called Edward to tell him that I was in cosmetology school and thanked him and Joel for introducing me to world of beauty.  Edward told me that day that he and Joel were going to open a salon in Los Angeles and to come work for him when it opened.  At the time that did not seem realistic but little did I know what was to come. To make a long story short, I received my licensed, got a job for Carlton Hair Int., quit because I was moving to Arizona, than two days before I moved I called Warren Tricomi salon and found out they just opened the Los Angeles location.  I set up an appointment for an interview and they asked me to attend in salon classes.  I am currently employed by Warren Tricomi and attend my in salon classes.  I never moved to Arizona.  For all those who know me, Warren-Tricomi salon, has been a dream of mine for four years.  Dreams do come true.  I worked for the first time the other day and it was the BEST day of my life.  I am truely blessed to wake up, go to work, and love what I do!  Thank God!

Thank you Dad and Mom for showing me how to never give up and to trust God always!

BEST Inc. Class

I attended my last BEST Inc. Class last night and it was very educational!  I learned CHI color and how Farouk Systems is one of the leading companies in the beauty industry and they've only been around for 18 years!  Debbie and Holly taught the class from Farouk Systems.  They are great educators and people to know in the beauty world!

Anyone that knows me, knows how much of a challenge color is for me.  Learning the CHI color line last night gave me hope!  Holly stated that there are many factors in achieving the right color for each client.  Consultation is a key role in a successful color application.  I didn't realize how important it is to find out, during a consultation, if the female client was on medication or going through a menstrual cycle because it will affect color results.  It is very important to find these little things out before you choose your color formulation.  Also, menopause and pregnancy can affect color results.  The reason behind this mystery is because the body is acidic more at these times than regular times.  Holly explained how to formulate around these issues.

Debbie worked on different highlighting techniques called, the herringbone and balayage.  Every company has different techniques for their product line.  I love how CHI balayages! Debbie made it very simple and easy to learn!

Holly is a great teacher and brought out a lot of different aspects a stylist needs to take into consideration when choosing color formulation.  She had great educational information for everyone attending the class, including hair care products.  Ladies we all know our hair gets damage when we add color to it and hair care is a significant key to great, long lasting shiny hair!  She introduced a hair care product called Biosilk.  I actually received a few samples and when I try it I will let everyone know how well it worked!!!  I'm sure it’s great from the sounds of it!!

I'm back from Orlando!

Premiere Orlando 2005 was quite the experience! Thanks to all who stopped by Salon City's Live Booth!

There is a frist time for everything!
It was my first time visiting Orlando and attending the Premiere Orlando hair show.  It was also my first time working for Salon City, www.saloncity.com.  (Check out November's issue of Salon City Magazine, featuring the Premiere Orlando show.)  I was honored to work with MAG artist, Marcel Munoz, Earnest Andrews, Krys Frehevari, and of course Steven and Annie, owners of Salon City Inc.

"Steven and Annie, thank you for giving me the opportunity to promote Salon City Inc. and introduce the world of beauty to unknown minds. I am looking forward to working with you again!" Love you dearly ~ Lavetta

The best part of the entire show was introducing MAG to students across the country.  Allowing them to soak in the vision of seeing themselves as stylist, instead of students, was inspiring! Students are one of my main focuses and I am very passionate about inspiring young talent to make history in this industry.  It's very rare I find students who have a heart like mine, and when I do, I encourage them to go to their destiny and achieve their industry goals. I am excited to say I met students from Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, California, New York, and Flordia.  Good luck to every single one of you and keep in touch with me to let me know what your doing in the industry. ( missvetdq@hotmail.com)

INTERESTED IN BECOMING A MEDIA ARTIST?:
If you are a licensed professional who recently graduated from beauty school or a student and are ready to promote and brand yourself in the industry, I highly recommend the MAG Boot Camp 06'. If you are serioius about attending the boot camp in 06' please leave your information with me or log on to www.saloncity.com to keep posted on dates and future events!

We are all here to help each other out and if there is anything I can do in my power, I will do so!
Hope to see you again soon! ~ Lavetta

How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

I received a question from a 15 year old young lady who simply asked, "How often should you wash your hair?"

To answer your question directly, it all depends on your hair and scalp condition.  Everyone’s hair and scalp condition is different, that explains why there are thousands of products on the market!

Let me explain.

Hair can usually be characterized as dry, oily, chemically treated or normal.  Some clients have an oily scalp with dry hair.  Keep note that oily hair should be shampooed more often than normal or dry hair.  Remember that excessive shampooing strips away the protective oil, technical name, "sebum", which seals the hair's cuticle. Understand there are many shampoos on the market for every scalp condition and hair type.  There are shampoos for hair that is dry, oily, fine, coarse, relaxed, limp, permed, or chemically untreated hair.  Basically, the correct shampoo depends on the condition of the hair and scalp.  If you wash your hair daily make sure you are using the correct shampoo and conditioner, because it can become damaging over time if used incorrectly.  Condition when necessary and follow the manufacturers directions because it can cause product build up, leaving the hair oily and heavy, leading you to wash your hair more often than usual.

I hope my explanation was understandable!

Note:  Keep your hair clean and smelling good!

Response to a Recent Comment

I recently received a comment from a young gentleman from Australia.
Here is the gentleman's comment:

"Time to burst the bubble.... Fair enough that MSN have decided that you have a great blog, but they aren't really doing much to help get rid of the whole 'body image' situation. Too many people get depression because they are well.... ugly, and it's beauticians and everyone in the feild that contribute to ongoing hate in this world, by advertising good looking people. Therefore, the entire profession is evil, along with models and glamourous actors. Banish make up, and banish gossipy women's magazines. Just my opinion, but Adios!"

I'm sorry that you feel that way young man, i'm sure you have a great heart and I would like to suggest that maybe you can be a light to those who are depressed! It's sad to see others that don't feel good about themselves because of what the world or magazines say looks good.  I try to be a light in many ways for those who feel that way by doing their hair or maybe make up.  God knows I don't wake up looking like Angelina Jolie!  No one does, well besides her, and we all know those glamourous models and actors wear make up!  No one is perfect and I really do suggest you help make those people realize that beauty is within!  I think most would agree!  ~Best wishes~
